Vanuatu is the perfect destination for a romantic break. Apart from the tropical weather, beaches, coconut palms and warm waters it’s such an easy place to get to. It’s just a few hours from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Auckland. Air Vanuatu has six weekly flights ex-Sydney, three from Brisbane, one from Melbourne and three from Auckland. Pacific Blue flies three times a week out of Brisbane and twice from Sydney. There are good connections from other cities.

It’s great for a long weekend, a week’s holiday (or longer) and most resorts offer ‘stay/pay’ specials – a longer stay can lend itself to a couple of resorts or an outer island trip. There are a number of ‘adults only’ resorts that welcome same-sex couples and the restaurants are fabulous. You also have the French influence and the fascinating Melanesian culture.

Vanuatu’s a place where the cliché ‘the perfect place to do as little or as much as you like’ is a reality. You can laze by the pool with a colourful cocktail or in a hammock with a book or get into some traditional culture or soft adventure – snorkelling, diving, sailing, abseiling, horse riding, game fishing or take a safari to an active volcano.
